Who Is God?

WHO IS GOD?

So Who Is The One True Living God? Knowing God is not about being religious or going to church, or doing good works until we think we're good enough for God. Even on our best day our thoughts, words, and actions fall far short of God's standards. All of us disobey God (which is called sin/evil/unholy/rebellion). No matter how much we try, we can not live up to God's Perfect, Just, Good, Sinless, Holy, and Loving Ways/Desires... it's impossible (we are all ungodly by nature & by choice). If you recognize this truth about yourself, you will then understand that you need to be forgiven by God. God is a God of Love, Mercy & Grace; but He is also a God of Justice, Righteousness & Holiness. God may love all of us, but in order to restore a proper relationship (intimacy/connection) with God and live eternally with Him, we need to be forgiven by Him. God's forgiveness can only come through Jesus Christ.

If we say we have no sin [refusing to admit that we are sinners], we delude ourselves and the truth is not in us. [His word does not live in our hearts.]
1 John 1:8

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23

The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."
John 14:6

This Jesus is the stone which was despised and rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief Cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].
Acts 4:11-12

It is only through the Power of God's Word and His Spirit, that enables us to truly know God, believe God, trust God, love God, and obey God. God draws us to Himself by drawing us to Jesus. Those promptings to come to God/Jesus (those desires that rise in our heart) are initiated by God - it's His Spirit at work.

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him [giving him the desire to come to Me]; and I will raise him up [from the dead] on the last day.

He came to that which was His own [that which belonged to Him—His world, His creation, His possession], and those who were His own [people—the Jewish nation] did not receive and welcome Him. But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name— who were born, not of blood [natural conception], nor of the will of the flesh [physical impulse], nor of the will of man [that of a natural father], but of God [that is, a divine and supernatural birth—they are born of God—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified].
John 1:11-13

The Bible

The Bible comprises/contains 66 separate Books-Letters-Texts. The Old Testament has 39 and the New Testament has 27. The Bible was written over a period of approximately 1500 years. Around 40 different humans contributed to writing the Bible, who were all moved/motivated by Divine Inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God. These people were kings, priests, prophets, government officials, farmers, shepherds, fishermen, doctors, etc. The Bible (Scriptures) contains the Words of God - God's Supernatural Words given to man, in man's language.
In the original Biblical manuscripts, the Words of God are without error.

All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God’s will, both publicly and privately—behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; so that the man of God may be complete and proficient, outfitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work.

For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

But understand this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of or comes from one’s own [personal or special] interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
2 Peter 1:20-21

We all tend to form personal opinions & interpretations of Who God Is (what we think/believe), but this is wrong. God does not want us to reinvent/recreate Him. God wants us to confidently know/understand Who He Is... His Nature, Character, Truths, Promises, Attributes, and Desires; as well as What He Has Done (in the past), What He Continues To Do (in the present), and What He Will Do (in the future). Carefully studying the Bible, meditating on it, and asking God for help/counsel/strength/understanding is essential.

Now these people were more noble and open-minded than those in Thessalonica, so they received the message [of salvation through faith in the Christ] with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.
Acts 17:11

Since God created everything and controls/rules over everything, the Bible reveals our human nature and existence, as well as the universe (outer space, earth, nature, animals, plants, organisms, etc). It also records many historical events, and future (prophetic) things to come.

The Bible is (in a sense) - God's Autobiography (His Interactions with people and all creation), our Owners Manual, a collection of Supernatural-Extraterrestrial Letters from outside our space-time domain.

Blessed (happy, favored by God) are those who hear the Word of God and continually observe it.
Luke 11:28

He who pays attention to the Word [of God] will find good, and blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is he who trusts [confidently] in the Lord.
Proverbs 16:20

"Either this Book will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from this Book" - John Bunyan

Who is Jesus the Christ?
Why was Jesus sent to Earth?

Jesus means: Salvation/Savior/Redeemer
Christ (Messiah in Hebrew) means: Anointed One/Chosen One
Jesus the Christ means: The Savior/Redeemer The Anointed One/Chosen One
Immanuel means: God With us
Jesus is Immanuel (God with us) Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:22-23

God has always longed to have a relationship with us. That we learn of Him, believe in Him, trust Him, rely on Him, obey Him, remain loyal to Him, and love Him with our entire being (all our heart, mind, soul and strength). Of course, God also desires that we love others as ourselves. But, no matter how much we try, we ourselves can not live up to God’s Perfect, Good, Just, Sinless, Holy, and Loving Ways/Desires... it's impossible. We all fall short, we miss the mark, we disobey God (this is called sin/evil/unholy/rebellion). We are all ungodly by nature & choice.

Because of God's Love/Kindness/Grace/Mercy for us, Jesus Christ (the image of God in human form) was sent to earth to save/redeem mankind from our rebellious/ungodly (sinful/evil/unholy) selves.

Jesus took the penalty of all our rebellious/ungodly (sinful/evil/unholy) ways upon Himself. By truly/wholeheartedly believing & trusting Jesus (Who He Is and What He Did); we are forgiven by God (delivered from God's holy/just/righteous judgment), and we are given a new life now (on earth) and an eternal life with Him forever (when we die). We enter into a new spiritual life with God (born-again, filled with God's Holy Spirit). We can then experience a forgiven, peaceful, trusting, loving, connected, strong, confident, eternal relationship with God. Jesus Christ delivers us from the Penalty of sin & the Power of sin - We are set free from sin.

For it is by grace [God's remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; not as a result of [your] works [nor your attempts to keep the Law], so that no one will [be able to] boast or take credit in any way [for his salvation].

For no person will be justified [freed of guilt and declared righteous] in His sight by [trying to do] the works of the Law. For through the Law we become conscious of sin [and the recognition of sin directs us toward repentance, but provides no remedy for sin].
Romans 3:20

Do we then nullify the Law by this faith [making the Law of no effect, overthrowing it]? Certainly not! On the contrary, we confirm and establish and uphold the Law [since it convicts us all of sin, pointing to the need for salvation].
Romans 3:31

Jesus is Perfect/Holy/Sinless - because Jesus is God (the Son), who was sent by God (the Father), empowered by God (the Holy Spirit).

Jesus is the only way to forever lasting life, love & peace with God. There is no other way you can be forgiven, saved, vindicated, redeemed, spiritually born again. Salvation is a present/gift from God - it can not be earned, but only freely received from God (just like a gift, we can either choose to receive it or reject it). Salvation (through our authentic faith in Jesus) is given to us by God's grace, it is His undeserved gift to sinners. Only through the Power of His Word and Spirit can we understand our own need and trust the wonderful truth about God and Jesus' death on the cross on our behalf. Jesus is the only way... not religion (religious rituals/ceremonies), not family ancestry/heritage/privilege (it is a personal matter between you and God alone), no amount of human effort/ability/strength/intelligence/will, no good deeds/works/behavior will do. Faith in Jesus is the only way.

God, having spoken to the fathers long ago in [the voices and writings of] the prophets in many separate revelations [each of which set forth a portion of the truth], and in many ways, has in these last days spoken [with finality] to us in [the person of One who is by His character and nature] His Son [namely Jesus], whom He appointed heir and lawful owner of all things, through whom also He created the universe [that is, the universe as a space-time-matter continuum].
Hebrews 1:1-2

In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. He was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God. All things were made and came into existence through Him; and without Him not even one thing was made that has come into being. In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men.
John 1:1-4

Colossians 1:15-20

Jesus in All the Books of the Bible
A Description of Jesus

Is Jesus really who He says He is? Many people believe Jesus to be a Great Moral Teacher, a Holy man, a Godly man, a Prophet, a Nonconformist, a Rebel... but Jesus said He Is God. Lets not forget that satan/devil, fallen angels, and demons know & believe who Jesus is; but they do not love/obey/follow Jesus (they choose to rebel against God). Jesus is either a liar, or is crazy, or is telling the truth... you decide.

The result (by-product) of genuine saving faith is... believing Jesus, trusting Jesus, relying on Jesus, loving Jesus, and obeying Jesus. A willing/continual/habitual/grateful commitment to follow Jesus. We are saved by believing/trusting Jesus (not by loving and obeying Jesus); but a belief/trust in Jesus that does not produce love and obedience to Jesus is not true saving faith. If we have true saving faith in Jesus, we will have genuine love for Jesus. If we have genuine love for Jesus, we will obey Jesus. Not by a life of perfection, but by purposeful/habitual obedience (there will be struggles & failures). Faith-Love-Obedience harmonize (they go hand in hand). A true Christian will follow (reflect/imitate) Jesus. This is true saving faith.

One keeps getting up, keeps moving forward, keeps repenting, keeps praying, keeps rejoicing, keeps praising, keeps receiving God's Love, keeps receiving God's Spiritual Promises, keeps receiving God's Truths, keeps receiving God's Power, keeps receiving God's Loving Correction & Discipline, keeps being willing & committed to surrender self to Jesus, and letting Jesus' Perfection work in/through them.

Jesus Here Am I, I Surrender - Have Your Way With Me

Jesus Laid Down His Life For You,
To Give His Life To You,
To Live His Life Through You

Jesus spoke of Repentance... what is repentance and is it important/necessary? Yes.

Though repentance includes true sorrow and regret, it is much more than that. Repentance is based on a genuine Holy Spirit Driven conviction of sin - not just simply a moral/ethical human choice. It is a wholehearted willingness and desire to turn from our lack of faith in God, to turn from all our wrong ways (sin), and to follow Jesus. This causes a change (conversion) of our heart, mind and soul; which brings about a complete change of our thoughts/words/actions/lives. It is a willing/habitual/continual/grateful commitment to turn away from sinful/evil/unholy/ungodly thoughts/words/actions and turn toward what pleases God/His Will/His Ways. In true Holy Spirit led repenting, one makes a complete change of direction (180 degree turn) toward God. Instead of rebelling against God, one abides (remains/continues) in God.

True God-given repentance affects our whole being and life; it’s not just a single act. It is an ongoing change, which causes us to understand, regret and hate sin/evil/unholiness. We desire God’s Will, His Ways;
NOT our flesh/human nature, the world, satan (sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality/promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds/enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions/heresies, envy, drunkenness, carousing, adultery, murder, sinful, evil, unholy, rebellious, selfish, unloving, unkind, unforgiving, arrogance, pride, stubbornness, perversion).

Who is Holy Spirit?

Holy Spirit (Spirit of God), comes from God the Father and God the Son (Jesus) to convict humans & the world of sin (evil/unholy/rebellion against God), righteousness and judgment. Holy Spirit indwells (is permanently present inside) every born again believer of Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit is the born again believers continuing/lifelong helper, comforter, counselor, teacher and guide. Holy Spirit renews, restores, regenerates, blesses, consecrates, makes holy, sanctifies, and empowers all who follow Jesus Christ toward Godly living. Holy Spirit changes us - gives us new wants & desires that are pleasing to God. The gifts/blessings/manifestations of Holy Spirit include... faith, hope, love, peace, joy, comfort, power, strength, patience, long-suffering, kindness, humility, serving, encouraging, giving, mercy, word of wisdom & knowledge, healing, miracles, prophecy, speaking in tongues, distinguishing of spirits, and more.

Jesus answered, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot [ever] enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh [the physical is merely physical], and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be surprised that I have told you, ‘You must be born again [reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified].’
John 3:5-7

But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.
John 14:26

But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name - who were born, not of blood [natural conception], nor of the will of the flesh [physical impulse], nor of the will of man [that of a natural father], but of God [that is, a divine and supernatural birth—they are born of God—spiritually transformed, renewed, sanctified].
John 1:12-13

But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

What Shall I Do To Become A True/Biblical Born Again Christian?

It is only through the Power of God's Word and His Spirit that enables us to truly know God, believe God, trust God, love God, obey God, and imitate/reflect God. God draws us to Himself (God the Father) by drawing us to Jesus (God the Son). Those promptings to come to God (those desires that rise in our heart) are initiated by Holy Spirit (God the Spirit).

John 3:16-17, John 14:6, John 6:44, John 6:65, John 6:37, John 15:16, John 1:11-13

Acknowledge/Admit to God that you disobey Him (you are sinful/selfish/evil/unholy/rebellious/disconnected from God). Humbly/Meekly confess your sins to God.

1 John 1:8-9, Romans 3:10, Romans 3:20-27, Romans 5:8-11, Romans 5:12, Romans 6:23, Romans 8:7-8, Romans 10:9, Romans 10:10, Ecclesiastes 7:20, Jeremiah 17:9, Proverbs 20:9, Proverbs 8:13, 1 John 2:15-17, Galatians 5:19-21, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Romans 1:18-32, Ephesians 2:1-4, Isaiah 64:6, Mark 7:21-23, Ezekiel 33:13, Revelation 22:15

Repent (change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, live changed lives). Turn from your selfish/sinful/evil/rebellious ways & turn towards God's good/loving ways (God's way of thinking, doing, and being right - the attitude and character of God). Repentance is being sorry/convicted enough to quit your sin and obey God.

Matthew 4:17, Acts 26:20, Acts 2:38, Luke 5:32, Mark 1:14-15, Luke 24:47, Acts 20:21, Luke 13:3-5, Luke 15:7, Psalm 34:14, Proverbs 1:23, 2 Peter 3:9, Romans 2:4, Proverbs 3:11-12, Revelation 3:19, Joel 2:12-13, Proverbs 8:13, Micah 6:8, Deuteronomy 8:6, 1 John 2:15-17, Galatians 5:16-26, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, Romans 1:18-32, Revelation 22:14-15

Believe/Trust Jesus Christ (genuinely with both your heart & mind) as your Savior, and Lord (Master), and God. Truly believe Who Jesus Is and What He Did for you. He is the Only One Who paid the price for your sins, who suffered & died for your sins, who rose to life again on the 3rd day, and who redeemed humankind to God so that all who truly repent & believe in Jesus may have eternal life with God. Jesus did this according to the Bible (which the Scriptures foretold). No one comes to Father in Heaven except through Jesus Christ the Son (Jesus is the only way).

John 3:16-17, John 1:12, John 1:29, John 14:6, 2 Timothy 2:5-6, John 3:36, Acts 4:12, Acts 16:31, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:20, Romans 3:31, 1 Corinthians 1:28-31, Titus 3:5, 2 Timothy 1:9, Ephesians 2:1-7, Ephesians 1:7, Romans 5:8, Romans 6:23, Romans 10:9, Romans 10:10, 1 Peter 2:24, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Colossians 1:13-14, Ephesians 1:13-14, Philippians 3:8-9, Colossians 1:15-23, John 1:1-4, 1 John 4:10, Matthew 20:28, Galatians 3:13, John 5:24, John 6:38-40, 1 Corinthians 15:22, 2 Corinthians 5:15, Isaiah 53:4-6, Psalm 22, Luke 24:25-27, Luke 24:44-47, John 5:46-47, Acts 3:18, Isaiah 9:6, Matthew 1:21, 1 Timothy 1:15, Luke 5:31-32, Matthew 16:24, Matthew 10:38, Matthew 12:48-50, Matthew 10:37, Matthew 11:28-30

The Holy Spirit (Spirit of God) will dwell/live inside you if (and only if) your repentance toward God and your faith toward Jesus is authentic/real. You are saved by believing/trusting Jesus (not by loving and obeying Jesus); but a belief/trust in Jesus that does not produce love and obedience to Jesus is not true saving faith. If you have true saving faith in Jesus, you will have genuine love for Jesus. If you have genuine love for Jesus, you will obey Jesus (not by a life of perfection, but by purposeful/habitual obedience). Faith-Love-Obedience harmonize (they go hand in hand). A true Christian follows (reflects/imitates) Jesus. This is true saving faith. This is your new Spiritual Birth (salvation/redemption/sanctification/regeneration).

John 3:3, John 3:5-7, John 1:12-13, Titus 3:5, John 6:63, Galatians 5:25, 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Corinthians 6:19, 1 Corinthians 2:10-11, John 14:26, John 15:26, John 16:7, Romans 8:1-17, Galatians 5:22-23

Faithfulness to God is a decisive action on our part; not merely thoughts, words, emotions or feelings. Our thoughts, our words, our emotions, our feelings, and most importantly our actions indicate/prove our level of repentance, love, obedience, trust, and faith in God (His Spirit/Ways in us) & to Jesus (Who He Is, What He Did, His Promises). You should clearly see (more & more over time) that you are living a new Godly life, because you have a new identity as God's child. The manifestation of God's Spirit in/through you (fruits of Holy Spirit) is an indication of true saving faith - a True Born Again Child of God - a forgiven, grateful, peaceful, loving, disciplined, connected, strong, confident, powerful, eternal relationship with God.

Hoping this has been enriching. As mentioned earlier, this is not about religion/religious activities, or an outward display of holiness, or a superficial pursuit of God. This is about having an authentic intimate relationship/partnership with God. Human perfection is not possible, yet striving for excellence/perfection should be our daily goal. There's nothing else more important than walking with God. Are you up for this unrivaled/unequaled journey?
